For those of you with specialties in crisis communication, a new publication is coming that appears to offer unique assistance in these digital times. "Verification Handbook, a Definitive Guide to Verifying Digital Content for Emergency Coverage" is being announced for availability in January. "The handbook," the announcement advises, "provides actionable advice to facilitate (that ugh! word) preparedness in newsrooms, and best practices for how to verify and use information, photos and videos provided by the crowd." To be available in printed, Kindle and free PDF verstions, online and print versions verification handbook are planned for release on January 28.
Edited by Craig Silverman, the handbook will include chapters by digital practitioners and is "an initiative by the European Journalism Centre (EJC) in the Netherlands, and financed by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, as well as the African Media Initiative (AMI). The project is supported by various international partners including the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)."
Sounds like the manual will be useful to have on hand for producers of digital news.
