Come on, guys! We note on the Providence Journal website that an intrepid Boston area marketing/communications firm, HB Agency, is celebrating Valentine’s Day this year by making it a “pitch-free” day for journalists in its orbit.
“That’s right,” says a release on PRNewswire, “HB is celebrating #NoPitchDay – no emailing, no phone calling, no tweeting, no Google stalking, no ‘I just happen to be in the neighborhood. Have time for coffee?’ Every single journalist on the planet can take a day of answering their phones and rest assured any call they get is probably a telemarketer, their editor or perhaps a disgruntled reader who somehow managed to convince the receptionist to patch them through.”
Disgruntled? Count us in on that HB. For the release includes a P.S.: “HB admits Valentine’s Day is a Saturday, but if it was a Monday or Friday or whatever, HB would probably still not pitch journalists, maybe.”
This is precisely the frivolous sort of folderol that PR doesn’t need. Why wouldn’t anyone in the “communications” business understand that?
