Arthur Sulzberger Jr., chairman of The New York Times Company, stresses during these turbulent times for journalism that The Times is not for sale. Sulzberger told a gathering on The Times this week, advises Michael Calderone on Huffington Post Media, that there's "a succession plan to groom six members of the 5th generation of the Sulzberger family for potential top leadership positions, including chairman and publisher."
Sulzberger said last year's sale of The Washington Post by the Graham family to Amazon's Jeff Bezos was a "shock out of the blue," but that it didn't alter The Times' resolve to remain under family ownership.
The Times, Calderone notes, is currently focused on such geo-political matters as the Obama administration's "pursuit of seven criminal leak investigations," one of them involving Times investigative reporter James Risen, who has a Supreme Court case pending on his refusal to reveal a source, and covering China despite the Chinese government's displeasure with the paper.
