Taylor Swift to Apple: 'Unfair' – Indeed

Apple, possibly the world’s most lavishly successful company, got a respectful comeuppance from Taylor Swift over its initial plan not to pay the artists royalties during the free, three-month trials of its new Apple Music service.

“This is not about me,” Ms. Swift wrote on a Tumblr.com post. “…This is about the young songwriter who just got his or her first cut and thought that the royalties from that would get them out of debt…

“These are not the complaints of a spoiled, petulant child. These are the echoed sentiments of every artist, writer and producer in my social circles who are afraid to speak up publicly because we admire and respect Apple so much. We simply do not respect this particular call.”

Before long, Apple’s Eddy Cue went on Twitter with three sequential posts announcing that Apple will, indeed, pay the artists for streaming, “even during customer’s free trial period”.

“We hear you @taylorswift13 and indie artists. Love, Apple,”  Cue closed, hoping, no doubt, to end Apple’s PR blunder swiftly.
