Social Media Strategy Insights

Nelson Wee, of Singapore, attended the Social Media Success Summit 2010 and came away with "3 Key Takeaways ..." that left an "indelible impression on my learning path." They would on anyone's path, actually. Social media are challenging.

Nelson's three insights are:

  • "Social media marketing is not a 'one-off affair'. It requires consistent attention, engagements and conversations."
  • It is very important to determine where your home base is (e.g. blog, Facebook, or fan page), among other social media challenges.
  • Sure there are case studies, but no one (social media) size fits all.

We've been suggesting this in a number of posts, but it's clear that social media is a discipline, and a challenging, time-consuming one. However, there's little choice now but to become adept at it, if you want to remain in PR.
