We need to pay more attention to what matters to older folks as our population ages. Here's an good example of how the familiar and appreciated matter to seniors.
The Lebanon Daily News in Lebanon, Pa., reports when the residents at a retirement home in nearby Annville, Pa., heard that an aging but beloved mural in their dining room was to be painted over, they circulated a petition and the home's management and rescinded the decorating change. Now, the mural will stay, and a freelance artist will touch it up.
"Everyone said, 'We don't want to get rid of it!' So I got a petition, and we all signed it," said Ernest Kline, a 96-year-old resident of the home. Yes, the successful petition was launched by a 96-year-old!
Being careful not to act without engagement with your audience is a prime tenet of PR -- whatever age groups may be involved.
