Here's a neat effort to recruit a truly outstanding PR intern in a crowded job market: a "Survivor"-like contest to see which hopeful is left standing. Eisen Marketing Group in Cincinnati is launching a competition to pit 12 promising intern applicants against each in a rumble that anyone will be able to follow via webisodes depicting the applicants' efforts. It's sort of like "Hell's Kitchen" of "The Apprentice" for a PR job.
Eisen seeks applications from graduating seniors or recent (2009) graduates through December 17, with the competition beginning on January 20th. Candidates should apply online at www.EisenPR.com and click on the 'careers' tab. Eisen calls its internship program NexPhase.
Says Eisen president Rodger Roeser: "Right now, most of my competitors are cutting jobs or shutting their doors altogether, while our firm continues to grow. As a result, however, we are inundated by those seeking a job and more often than not, looking through resumes, stuffy job interviews and review of work product is not that helpful. I'm not looking for the next okay agency person, I'm looking for the next rock star, and in true 'PR guy fashion,' I like to do something fun that also makes some waves."
Let's have some early applause for an innovative hiring gambit and wish success to the contenders and sponsor alike.
