Savvy Tips on Choosing PR Clients
 
Not just anyone needing PR services makes a good PR client. A lot of time, energy, and frustration can be can be saved by picking clients wisely — before you start working with them. Kathy Cripps of the Council of Public Relations Firms talked to several pros on their approaches to vetting potential clients.

At minimum, interview prospective clients on their expectations of what public relations can do for them, and how well-equipped they are to purchase your services. Being assertive is letting a prospective client know that you're being responsible, and that you expect responsibility of them. Talk to them before submitting a proposal, and treat the proposal as a charter for the relationship you and the prospective client are forming.

Use the council's Fit to Win questionnaire to ensure that you consider all the pertinent factors. It's exciting to land a new client, but it's important to be realistic first.
