Ringling Bros. Gives In On Its Elephants

National Geographic reports that pressure on Ringling Bros. to retire its elephants has prevailed and they’re being sent to live out their years at an unmarked location in Florida.

“We’re in the entertainment business,” says Kenneth Feld, CEO of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey. "It takes away from the total enjoyment when you’re getting yelled at, and your kids are getting yelled at, by these activists.”

So, even though many circus fans will miss them, Ringling’s elephants will have a far quieter setting than big tops and rumbling trains at their Florida retirement home. It will be the “largest concentration of Asian elephants (an endangered species) in the Western Hemisphere.”
