Here's a PR firm that appears to deserve special awareness, Shazaaam! Public Relations and Marketing in Southfield, MI and not because its name is easy to spell. Southfield is outside Detroit, a pretty depressed area, yet Crain's Detroit Business named the agency as the top "Cool Place to Work in Tough Times" (1-50 employees). Last month it was named one of "Metropolitan Detroit's 101 Best and Brightest Companies to Work For," again, in a challenging environment.
Crain's cited Shazaaam for its open-door-communication policy, fun as a requirement in the workplace, and flexible hours. In acknowledging the award, Adrienne Lenhoff, Shazaaam's founder and president, noted, "We have a great dynamic in the workplace that helps us stay cool during these not-so-cool economic times."
Whatever the staff does to keep its spirits up, we're impressed Shazaaam's approach to relating to its clients mirrors time-honored PR principles.
"In this high-speed, electronic pop-up flash world of ours," Shazaaam says on its Web site, "we haven't forgotten to slow down and listen to our clients. In spite of our reputation for strategies that speed to market, achieve fast-track results, and take no prisoners, the process still starts with old-fashioned, principle-based marketing analysis, client input, partner strategy sessions, collaboration, teamwork, accountability, pushing the envelope, and doing what's best for our clients."
