Mullen to Close Pittsburgh Branch?

We are always bummed out to hear when an agency needs to consolidate. Especially more so when that agency had an impact on our marketing development.

Hopefully this isn't true, but the word is out that the Mullen branch in Pittsburgh is closing its doors, affecting around 45 agency personnel.

The Mullen branch in Pittsburgh, in conjunction with Point Park University (Point Park College at the time), helped fuel our young minds with the idea of going into a career of advertising, especially in the agency environment.

When we were in high school, we and several other marketing/DECA students were offered an apprenticeship to learn marketing and advertising theory and tactics with Point Park professors and Mullen agency personnel. It was an eight-session apprenticeship, with the sessions happening every other Friday.

So not only did we get a chance to miss school, but as a high school senior driving and hanging out in downtown Pittsburgh, we felt like a big deal.

We did different presentations, learned about Mullen, and saw their love for what they did.

It saddened us to hear that Mullen may have lost its Highmark account, an account they had for 15 years, and probably the account that gave them the opportunity to hire more folks to help spread its name to the marketing up-and-comers in the city.

What Mullen Pittsburgh did was pretty cool. They got their name in front of young minds. Plant the seed of advertising while kids can have the opportunity to choose the career, rather than fall into it.

We wish the Mullen Pittsburgh folks the best.
