For all of you, like me, who weren't there, Lee Odden provides a generous TopRank blog post on this week's Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) International Conference in Philadelphia. Talk about the ground shifting under us! "Over 17,000 newsroom jobs have been lost since 2007," Lee notes, and PR is focusing increasingly on digital content.
"On top of that," Lee continues, "declining readership of traditional media, exploding use of social and mobile technologies, shortened news cycles and an explosion in brand publishing make today's media environment very different. And by 'different', I mean zombie-like scary for some."
Read on in Lee's post to see how his TopRank team has been extending its reach from Minnesota "by investing in our own content" — blog posts — that help them reach thousands of business people a day without coverage by the traditional media. Many of you are already experiencing this sort of thing, but Lee's post is an obligatory look into the arriving future for both PR and marketing people. For both groups, the New World is real. And Lee's post with its accompanying materials is the next best thing to having been in Philadelphia.
