A great PR clash of our times is occurring between the labor movement, which hopes to be known as the resurgent labor movement, and business interest groups opposed to that aspiration. With income distribution in the U.S. over the last quarter century or so becoming increasingly skewed toward the higher end, this is a clash of real moment for lots of people. Get a sense of what it's looking like from a visit to the blog of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and an opposing site, OpenMarket.org, the blog of a Washington-based organization called the Competitive Enterprise Institute.
Not surprisingly, the OpenMarket site depicts the SEIU as a clamorous bunch of overpaid unionists, while SEIU.org tells of a public-spirited group of aggressive working people. We don't expect this to be quite the '30s again, but Web publicists will be aiming digital leaflets – from both sides – at us all. Should be an interesting battle and, for some of us, in whichever camp, a fateful one.
Fight fair, troops!
