Gratitude, Hope, and Hidden Reserves

There's been a flurry of media attention around the novel convergence of Thanksgiving and Hanukkah this year, something that hasn't happened since 1918 and won't happen again until 2070.

Thanksgiving, of course, is all about gratitude, something that we often forget to remember as we deal with the stress of our daily lives, resent the rising cost of living, and lament the state of the world. But being grateful for what we do have makes us happier, more successful, more likeable people, and it also gets us more of the things we want in life.

Hanukkah celebrates a miracle in which one day's worth of oil lasted eight days. It reminds those who celebrate never to give up hope, and that sometimes we can find hidden reserves beyond what seemed possible.

Over this long weekend celebrating gratitude, hope, miracles, and resilience, let's remember to be grateful not only for food, shelter, good friends, and family, but also for the challenges that keep us growing, the disappointments that remind us what matters most in life, and the hard work that keeps us looking forward to days off, vacations, and holiday weekends!
