Jane Genova's evidence is only anecdotal, but she may be picking up on a relational turn of events. In any event, she predicts a return to face-to-face interaction.
"I have a hunch the next major trend will be getting together with our fellow humans, in-person, again," Genova says. "The Web is no longer satisfying with its six degrees of separation."
While admitting she's an "outlier," Genova may also have a fresh perspective. She cites a number of recurring close encounters that make her think people may be going out of their way to talk to each other.
For public relations, she anticipates a demand for special events and webinars.
"The 21st-century (version) of the counterculture concert," she adds, "will have to be invented for clients. To get clients, yes, we will invite them to eat peanuts at the zoo and work-out with us."
We'll also have to continue doing social media, though not as much of it. She has a couple of other notions on cultivating real-world contacts; it's all grist for the PR mill.
