Forget Good Intentions Without Stated Policies Behind Them
 
What does it take to insure trust in an activity or enterprise? The copilot-initiated crash of Germanwings Flight 9525 raises that question anew in horrendous terms. Yet it's present whenever an organization's functioning purports to include an effective public relations component. That takes more than a plan, it takes policies and rules stated and applied credibly and consistently. Like, notes Captain Tom Bunn, a former pilot in a Time posting, a rule requiring that "when a pilot needs to leave the cockpit, a flight attendant is called in..."

That's a rule that exists on U.S. airlines, but is "now being rushed into place" elsewhere. Proper corporate intentions need to be backed up by stated and applied policies, or they have little relational heft.
