Fast-Flowing News of the Future?

What would news delivery of the future look like without newspapers or TV newscasts? While this is a question we'd rather not ask, it's a pertinent one, given the web's rapid evolution. And British broadcaster ITV has provided something of an answer with its ITV News website "providing truly 'digital native news.'" Writing on Fast Company's Co.CREATE site, Meg Carter, a UK-based freelance journalist, finds there's nothing static about it

The new site, she writes, is "inspired by the immediacy of social networks lite Twitter and Facebook," and "the new ITV News site's homepage is a live news stream."

"ITV News-branded video content," Carter adds, "is center stage accompanied by tweets and online updates from correspondents and commentators. Away from the homepage each ITV News section — national, international, business, entertainment, and so on — has also been redesigned to accommodate this rolling, live-streamed approach.

"Users can filter the news streams by story — another new feature. The site also links to third-party news sources offering the potential to aggregate materials to add detail to a story. With alll content shareable, the site has effectively become...'a huge social marketing engine.'"

Ms. Carter, unfortunately, doesn't include an information as to how the site is doing with viewers and visitors, but notes "this is not a revenue-generating product for ITV".
