Facebook's Captivating Churches

From Lebanon, Pa., comes evidence of how PCs are jostling with pulpits to become relationship builders for churches. More and more churches have Facebook pages and a recent sermon topic at a Lebanon-area church was "What a Facebook Friend We Have In Jesus."

The Lebanon Daily News notes that "A survey last September of 1,003 Protestant congregations conducted by LifeWay Research found that 47 percent of churches actively use Facebook."

"Among churches that use social networking tools," the Daily News' report continues, "73 percent use them for interacting with the congregation, 70 percent for distributing news and information, 52 percent for fostering member-to-member interaction and 41 percent for managing the church's group ministry."

Social media seem to be providing bully pulpits, indeed.
