Earlier we posted a story about a study done by Social Media Marketing University (SMMU). As educators, we now constantly look for new ways to present, interpret, and gather information for our students.
So we want to know: do you still learn?
Hopefully the answer isn't "no." The marketing and advertising industry is changing so rapidly. Yet what we have learned about the industry's past has helped us tremendously to frame the future.
If we do not learn from our past, we are doomed to repeat it, right?
There is so much information out there from advertising and marketing legends. It is interesting that so many have written them off as "outdated."
As new technology and new tools are introduced, we continually fail to incorporate universal truths that have been established long before many of us even entered the profession.
So, do you still learn? We hope so.
We think about what it means to be a professional, and we cannot be comfortable with the definition of being a "master" at our craft. For there are plenty of professionals, but very few masters.
We wonder, then, what could our profession turn into when everyone dedicates a little time to research or learn something about the industry they didn't previously know? Though knowing everything about a subject would be difficult, everyone knowing a little about everything would make the achievement gap a little more manageable.
Yes, let us continue to search for new opportunities, new perspectives, and new ideas when it comes to marketing and advertising.
Also, let us not immediately shrug off the old.
