Now even the IRS has been hacked, with tax data on 104,000 people stolen – the challenge of cyber security has truly been brought home. Could there be a bigger relational challenge than cyber security? Hardly.
And providentially, perhaps, from the Wharton School’s website, comes a proposal from several security experts for a “9-11-type Cyber Threat Commission” that would be appointed by the President and Congress to “produce a report on the state of the digital union, including an assessment of the risks and a plan for addressing them in plain language that all can understand.”
Now what could be the harm of that, compared to having our computers and messaging trifled with? This, too, is a national security issue.
This just in: Now we're learning from The Cyberwire that "the US Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has been breached, and the personally identifiable information (PII) of some four million current and former government workers compromised. OPM noticed the intrusion in April; it seems to have begun this past December. The FBI is investigating, and various Administration officials are saying on background that China is responsible."
