Though people are quick to proclaim their hate for advertising, it is fascinating to see how pervasive advertising is in our society. Advertising is truly everywhere. We see it when doing business, when relaxing, when entertaining, and especially when we are being entertained.
We love it when some of the famous celebrities take their shots at advertising, because it shows that certain techniques from advertisers have become so popular that they are considered a norm and are therefore woven into our social fabric.
We want to highlight Stephen Colbert's take on the advertising world. A few days ago he did a skit with Laura Linney that parodied the typical coffee ad: a nice, well-dressed couple starting the day with their usual pot of coffee.
Let's just say that the ad takes a turn. Watch below.
Based off the ad, we highly doubt that Yesterday's Coffee, if it existed, would see a boost in sales.
It is just funny to see how comedians can use advertising in humor; it is something that everyone can relate to. The popularity of coffee ads is clearly seen. How cool.
This ad reminded us of the hilarious "Almost Pizza" skit on SNL will Bill Hader and Kristin Wiig. The ad below pokes fun at DiGiorno Pizza. This one is interesting because the DiGiorno ads were already pretty cheeky, so figuring out a way to top them would be a challenge. We think they succeeded.
Of course, we would be totally remiss if we didn't mention one of the most famous SNL ad parodies with Phil Hartman: Colon Blow.
We enjoy seeing how advertising is part of our culture. We hope you do too.
