Amazon In The Times – What Sort of Workplace Is It?
 
I was under the perceptual lash of The New York Times myself when I worked in communications in the nuclear power industry, but Amazon’s Jeff Bezos can’t fend off a Times attack on his workplace climate simply by saying “Even it it’s rare or isolated, our tolerance for any such lack of empathy needs to be zero.”

Geez. Is Amazon a place you’d turn to as a locale of empathy? Rather, it seems more a workplace of forced-draft energy. Which is unfortunate, because we need models of large-scale workplaces with a humanistic core.

If this is starting to sound like mush, we refer you to The Times articles and Jeff Bezos’ comments in response to them. Would you want to be working there? is the question that arises for Amazon and other big employers, The Times or not.

Ketchum's Stephen Waddington is quoted in The Guardian as noting that Amazon "can only drive innovation so far as a purpose, [Amazon] will eventually have to come up with a higher purpose based on the communities it serves."
