Title: Online Marketing Director, Consumer & Online
Role Purpose
If you have deep marketing expertise, a solid background in building and growing online businesses, and a passion for delighting consumers, then this is the role for you. Consumer & Online (C&O) is a dynamic, fast-paced, growing division within Microsoft that owns the delivery of Microsofts end-to-end consumer business (PC, phone, web) in all markets except for the United States and owns Microsoft’s worldwide Advertising and Publisher Sales business. The Online Marketing Director reports to the GM of C&O’s WW Consumer and Online Marketing Office (WWCOMO), a team tasked with landing great end-to-end marketing experiences for consumers around the world. As Online Marketing Director, you will partner closely with senior members of our online business groups (Bing, MSN, Windows Live, and Mobile Services) and key members of our worldwide C&O field marketing organization to drive critical online audience and revenue KPIs, most notably initiatives centered on growing worldwide share for our online services. In addition, you will provide strategic and tactical guidance to our field marketing teams to enable them to surpass market-specific goals and head off competitive threats. As the online expert for the COMO team, you will play a critical leadership role in building and growing our suite of online services, and provide thought leadership to our online marketing teams worldwide.
Key responsibilities Manage the community of Online Marketing Leads, a worldwide team made up of our most senior online marketing professionals. Leverage monthly calls, annual summits, and face to face interactions in local markets to provide strategic market insight and guidance, open and maintain connections to senior members of our online BGs, and share best practices. Partner with senior members of our online BG marketing teams (Windows Live, OABG, Mobile Services) to craft compelling “go to market” playbooks and creative assets, land them successfully in the field, track their usage, measure their results, and provide Field feedback to the BGs. Enable quarterly online connection meetings in partnership with BGs to review and improve our overall online results and optimize our cross-network approach. Establish and manage virtual teams responsible for brainstorming, testing, executing, and scaling repeatable marketing programs which tackle our most challenging online business priorities, especially MSN default home page share and MSN to Bing audience transfers. Identify and communicate Online Best Practices in partnership with Community leader. Create and manage a process for allocating, distributing, and tracking ROI on a multi- million dollar online field marketing budget. Work closely with critical developing online markets, such as Japan and Germany, to build compelling and effective marketing plans to grow and maintain our share of local online consumer audiences. Recommend strategic ways to drive cross-network audience engagement within our online businesses, especially MSN to Bing transfers. Develop, test, and scale globally a system for measuring, tracking, and reporting online marketing ROI and critical business KPIs across our online BG marketing initiatives. Identify ways to leverage Microsoft’s extended product suite (Xbox, Mobile Devices, Zune) to acquire and engage new consumers for our online BGs. Work with the Last Mile Innovation (LMI) team in C&O to identify smart ways to leverage innovative technology and our large installed base of Online and Windows users worldwide to grow our consumer audience. Work with the BGs and Field Excellence Leader to land an optimized Online marketing blueprint for FY 11.
Position Requirements Our ideal teammate comes with 10+ years of experience and knowledge on how to grow and monetize large online audiences, build and measure effective marketing programs for online businesses, and leverage data to make smart business decisions. Someone with a combination of Microsoft field marketing or sales experience and BG product management or marketing would be ideal. Since you’ll be working with teams from around the world, you’ll need to be comfortable operating in different cultural settings, and have exceptional communication and presentation skills. You’ll also need to be able to influence others, including senior executives, with well-reasoned plans and ideas. In addition, the ability to build consensus and support for your initiatives across field marketing teams, the online BGs, and across the company is critical. You can expect some international travel (15%).
