Today’s article is a controversial one, with many PPC marketers believing that long tail keywords are the holy grail of Adwords and that they are the best way to get cheap high converting traffic.

I am forever hearing from so called “PPC Experts” say that they were able to double a client’s profit by taking all of their 2-4 word keywords and turning them into long tail keywords with 4+ word phrases so they could generate lots of cheap high-converting traffic because they believe that 70% of searchers are 4+ words long.

But in this article I am going to explain to you (using real data from accounts that we manage and also data from an article written by Sam Owen over at PPC Hero) why long tail keywords are not the holy grail in Adwords and it is simply not possible to double your profit by taking lots of short tail keywords and turning them into long tail keywords.
