PR Business Perspectives: Time Does Not Always Equal Money

We have all heard the saying, “time is money”—especially as it pertains to business. In my experience, that is not always true.

In any business, public relations especially, you are going to put in a lot of time and see little immediate rewards. It’s my belief that the time you invest in a project is never wasted, even when you don’t get paid for it.

Our agency has taken on a number of projects that required many hours of work and little compensation (at least in a monetary sense).

We agree to work on these projects because we can see ways to expand our business in the long term. Public Relations is a ‘people’ industry. If you treat clients well, they will treat you well in return. Do not always say ‘no’ to the non-profit or pro-bono jobs. It’s a great way to expose potential clients to what you are capable of. Not to mention, these types of projects tend to be among the most rewarding professionally.
