|Is Your Newsroom Newsy or Just Annoying? Journalists Report

Do you manage an online newsroom? If so, you might be frustrating a journalist. That’s the finding of a recent study that says around one in six journalists find online newsrooms hosted by corporations, NGOs, and government organizations to be unsatisfactory.
That’s unfortunate because an online newsroom can prove a valuable tool to inform and influence journalists; in fact, a whopping two thirds visit these online newsrooms at least once a week.
Although 85 percent of journalists say they find online newsrooms useful, only 60 percent view them as satisfactory, according to TheNewsMarket survey of 248 journalists.
45 percent find the lack of useful material on the newsrooms very frustrating, while more than half get frustrated if they cannot download high-resolution content.
41 percent say they want clearer rights information about using content that is hosted on online newsrooms.
Journalists surveyed said they considered images to be the most important type of content available in an online newsroom.
So if your high-res images are not accessible, your content is not well marked for copyright, and you don’t have enough heft in your content, you may want conduct an overhaul of your online newsroom.
A well-appointed online newsroom can be an integral tool in cementing a beneficial relationship between you, editors, and other stakeholders.
