My wife and I were among the 150,000 people who Mark Kennedy, AP’s Drama Writer, reports watched the December 10 live-streaming of the off-Broadway musical “Daddy Long Legs” via the Internet. We thought it was wonderful, as did many others, and now, no surprise, comes confirmation that the show’s producer was indeed excited by the response.
150,000 viewers (78.4 percent of them in the U.S.) is a thousand times the 150-seat capacity of the theater from which the show was live-streamed. “Daddy Long Legs” ticket sales have been increasing since the broadcast, and 82 percent of the viewers polled said they’d pay for remote access to other shows. So it looks like we may well have another form of entertainment – the live-streaming of Broadway shows and other events – emerging.
