Municipal Communication: Speaking Up for Newark, Del.

We don’t know how much of a trendsetter Newark, Del., may be, but we like its evident operational focus on communication as a discipline it itself. The Newark Post reports that the city council there approved hiring a heftily paid communications manager rather than combining the function with economic development.

The lucky communicator will oversee Newark’s website along with its social media presence, the city’s TV channel and print publications. “It’s an opportunity for us to have a good, consistent message on everything we do,” a deputy city manager noted.

Hurray for a focus on getting Newark’s essence across and explaining what it’s doing clearly and coherently! That’s what good communication does, right? What could be more valuable as the underpinning of any community? Good luck, Newark, in finding the right person!
