Edelman on the Climate Fence: Doesn't It Hurt? |

Gee. We were wondering whether to note the embarrassment that Edelman, one of the most prestigious PR firms around, may well be reeling over the loss of four executives and a couple of clients over the climate change issue. As we read, in this Guardian post…
“Historically, Edelman has positioned itself as a different kind of PR firm: family-owned, less subject to the short-term earnings pressures of its rivals, and driven by a sense of purpose and a desire to make a difference in the world. Just last month, Richard Edelman told graduates of DePaul University’s communications school to ‘make communications marketing your version of The Avengers, the force for good aspiring to change the world.’”
It seems that a “force for good” would by now have made up its mind on whether climate change is to be taken seriously – that is, have made up its corporate mind and quit representing clients on both sides of the issue. There’s more in The Guardian’s story to that point.
Even a firm, perhaps especially a firm, that’s closing in on a billion dollars in annual bookings, owes PR more regard as a credible relational discipline than Edelman has apparently been showing on climate change.
