Police and PR – An Orange County Initiative

Out in Orange County, CA, there’s a website that looks like a news center, but though staffed by former news reporters, is actually a regional police PR outlet, Behind the Badge OC.

Done well, this kind of site can be good both for law enforcement officers and the communities they serve. “Since going live nearly ten months ago,” says one of its posts, “Behind the Badge has garnered 19,000 followers on Facebook and now averages 80,000 unique visitors a month, according to Bill Rams, a principal at Irvine-based Cornerstone Communications, who serves as the site’s editor-in-chief.

Think about possible police/PR partnerships in your own area. Both public safety and public awareness, can be achieved by them.
