Don’t look for this to become a movement among pizza shops, but the tours being given to youngsters at Stevi B’s Pizza in Chesterfield Township, MI, are a good example of PR being done in an educational context. Worthy context and helpful messages are features of good public relations.
Stevi B’s is taking kids on behind-the-scenes tours of the pizza shop, advising them about the ingredients used, including fresh vegetables, like broccoli and peppers, they likely wouldn’t eat otherwise, nutrition and portion control.
“When we are not mindful of what we are eating, we choose unhealthy options,” says Susan Atleski, co-owner of the pizza shop, in a story in The Voice, the local newspaper. “More than that, we overeat and miss important cues that we are full. Our pizza program is about reconnecting with the foods we eat. We want children to see food as fuel.”
It’s OK to be preachy in a worthy relational context.
