|2014 PRediction Fail
By: Mike Bush
Heading into 2014, I published 3 PRedictions for what the year would bring.
I was generally, well, wrong.
Tune in next week when I try to do better than .5 out of 3.
- I predicted the fall of the wire services through some sort of disruption. Didn’t happen. I stand by the prediction (it will be in my 2015 predictions next week) because the digital age doesn’t require these services.
- I predicted that native advertising would “go the way of MySpace.” This was based on a gut feeling that native advertising is kind of — wrong? I still don’t like the medium, but it obviously has a place within a marketing campaign.
- I said a major sports league would break the cable model. I’m going to take half credit for this one, because the WWE tried it, and did so with rave reviews. That said, cable companies have done an amazing job of corralling sports (via HUGE sums of money) in a way that slows this prediction down. To wit.
