Did Google Take out the Trash?

For a few years, when Google was looking to find its way in the social networking space, it seemed like there was always a mention of Orkut (one of the search giant’s early social escapades), and with any mention of Orkut came some sort of reference to how it was “Big in Brazil.”
  • Here’s an Information Week article about Google shutting down the service this week. It mentions Brazil.
  • Here’s a 2010 TechCrunch interview with Marissa Mayer (now Yahoo’s head honcho). It mentions Brazil.
  • And here’s a 2007 Mashable article about Orkut. Yup, it mentions Brazil.
In PR, we all know what distributing a press release on Friday means.

I just wonder if Google looked around, saw that all of Brazil might be preoccupied with some other event, and decided to reinvent taking out the trash.
