Perks in a New Gig

It’s no secret that some tech companies are known to spoil their employees with outside-the-box perks. Somewhere along the way, some aggressive flack pushed the idea of highlighting perks at particular companies. By way of example, Fast Company, The Washington Post, and even Bon Appetite have covered the food available in the Googleplex.
So it’s no surprise that companies aim to publicize their perks. HR must love the free advertising, and I’m sure that the number of (hopefully quality) resumes coming in spikes any time an article highlighting some sort of different corporate culture gets published.
Business Insider today published a slideshow of perks that 12 tech companies offer to their new hires. It’s a neat read including everything from a walk in the woods with a certain billionaire, a CEO who reads every resume of every new hire, and perhaps most interestingly, a couple thousand dollars to go spend on travel.
Articles like this are a great reminder to flacks that maybe there are angles we haven’t considered, and perhaps it’s time to talk to the HR departments of our clients. After all, they serve as a great way to generate coverage and attract talent (you know...in addition to posting an open position on Talent Zoo).
