Stick a Fork in Her; She's Done

Food Network icon. Restaurateur extraordinaire. Southern Belle and Dairy Queen (seriously, no one EVER used more butter).
These are all terms that could be used to describe Paula Deen.
Other words? Alleged Racist.
In case you missed the news, Paula Deen gave a deposition where she admitted to, among other things, the use of the N-word. (Colorful language alert: The Daily Beast has a breakdown of some of the more interesting things recorded in the 130-page deposition).
For an apology, she went on NBC’s Today Show, and while she did offer an apology, from the reviews, she seems to have jumped out of the frying pan and into the fire (last cooking pun, I promise…maybe).
The brands she was working with have mainly distanced themselves as best as possible (Walmart, Food Network, and Caesars being among the larger organizations to terminate their affiliations with her).
Of course, all things considered, Ms. Deen may have found the absolute perfect time to step away from the spotlight (duck and cover from its glare?). Yesterday was one of the bigger news days of the past few years (Supreme Court decisions, an NFL player arrested for murder, etc.), so there is an opportunity to disappear from the public conscience for a bit.
