Ragan’s PR Daily has done it again. The site recently posed an article by Michael Sebastian, its founding editor, about upcoming social media sites us flacks need to be aware of. Since we are often times thought of by others as thought leaders, we need to stay informed and updated on emerging trends.

In his article Michael listed the five emerging social media networks he feels we all need to pay attention to. He does not suggest we abandon Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, or others.

He notes, “Right now, your head is likely buried in projects involving established social networks such as Facebook and Twitter. Sometimes you need to take a breath and see what else is out there—to forecast the popular social networks of tomorrow. We’re not talking Instagram or Tumblr; you know about those sites. We’re also not suggesting Facebook is going to evaporate. It’s not going anywhere for now.”

He then went on to list the five emerging social media sites that we may all be hearing a lot more about in the near future. In his article he named Medium, Whisper, Chirpify, Sina Weibo, and deviantArt as the up-and-coming social sites to watch.

After commenting about each site, he then gave a compelling reason why we should care about each of these emerging networks.
