Social media has officially become a way of life. From job searching to networking with colleagues and old friends, everyone is using social media, including your favorite businesses. Whether you’re at the ATM machine for the local bank or commuting on your city’s bus to work, you will definitely see a Facebook or Twitter icon. But should ALL business utilize social media? Yes…but only if they are using it to effectively promote their business!
Engage the Consumer
Let’s say your favorite clothing store encourages you to “Like” their Facebook page. So you click “Like.” Okay...what happens next? Sometimes, nothing! Thankfully, companies are slowly but surely learning to engage the consumer using Facebook. A simple “Like” just won’t do. Businesses are now creating contests and sweepstakes and even allow for fan/consumer feedback via Facebook to engage the consumer. Everyone wants to feel appreciated…customers included!
Pick the Right Team
It’s often said that a corporation is only as good as its staff. It can also be said that a company’s social media efforts can only be as great as the team monitoring accordingly. Companies should seriously consider hiring social media teams to oversee all promotional and marketing needs for the social media realm. These dedicated professionals will be able to devote endless hours to promoting the brand via social media, as opposed to having other employees wearing many hats with the social media role being one of them.
With such an emerging field, it’s so important for businesses to use social media wisely. By engaging the consumer and selecting the right members to oversee all campaigns, companies will definitely thrive. Social media rocks!
