Progressive Insurance's Collision With Social Media |

Wow! Read what happened to Progressive Casualty Insurance Co. in complex auto accident litigation that created a PR setting made to order for social media, which, in fact, worsened Progressive's situation. The litigation over the death of motorist Kaitlynn E. Fisher and the manner in which her brother, Matt, took to Tumblr about it is an illustration of today's increasingly challenging communication environment.
We won't attempt to sort out the Fisher case here, but corporate public relations people clearly need to be mindful of what they could be facing in the court of social media-enhanced public opinion. (The situation also appears to illustrate how lawyers often don't have the keenest sense of public relations.)
