Per various television news stories and Internet articles, it has been rumored that Facebook will be developing a “Want” button. Yes, you read correctly: a “Want” button. First the “Like” button, then the Timeline, now this. Why would users “Want” a new feature?

For starters, the “Want” button will allow Facebook users to share items and products of their choice with Facebook friends. The “Want” feature will be used as a method to build financial commerce via the Facebook site.

According to social media news website Mashable, Facebook has not confirmed the creation of the Want button, but has not denied it either. “We’re always looking for new features for the platform,” Facebook said. “However, we have nothing new to announce.”

With over 900 million active users and revenue earnings of over $3 billion in 2011, Facebook’s success is continuing to grow. With the potential addition of the “Want” button, Facebook has the opportunity to capitalize in social commerce, while possibly building partnerships and growth within the retail industry.
