Public relations has a PR problem. We've known it or sensed it, but Vanessa Horwell brings it to the fore. Vanessa, Chief Visibility Officer and founder of Miami-based ThinkInk and The ThinkTank, attended the Online Marketing Summit and spoke with people who had negative things to say about their own PR reps.

"Most of the gripes I heard," Vanessa reports, "ranged from: 'All they did was write press releases' to 'They weren't creative or strategic in planning,' or my favorite, 'They charged a lot but didn't do much.' If this pervasive dissatisfaction is what I'm hearing in such a small group, I shudder to think what's thought of us elsewhere."

But to get to another plane, Vanessa says: "I want to start a PR community discussion. Let's ask ourselves, 'Why do they hate us? What are we doing wrong?' Let's do whatever we must to fix the problem and make sure that in the future, our clients have more good things to say about us." Join her in the discussion if you think it's an important one.
