Have you followed a celebrity that you liked pre-twitter only to discover you really don’t like them that much? And vice-versa, have you followed someone whom you were pretty neutral about but ended up liking more because of their tweets? I have, and I imagine I’m not the only one. Keep in mind, I use the word celebrity loosely here sometimes. Most people in the world don’t know or care who Alex Bogusky or Luke Sullivan is. I’m talking about most anyone you admire (or used to admire) in some way who is known for something and whom you don’t know personally.

Twitter has changed things quite a bit. First and foremost, it has offered direct access. No more agents. No waiting for concerts, games, TV appearances or magazine interviews. In a world of celebrity worship, this has for the most part been a godsend for both the worshipers and the worshipees. There are even sites now that track celebrity and athelete Twitter accounts. But with unlimited exposure come potential consequences, like people discovering who you really are. Sometimes that means seeing how boring or seriously deranged others can be. For me, Twitter has made me see some comedians as unfunny, some athletes as really stupid, and some advertising giants as normal people who don’t have any better answers than I do.

As with anything, it comes down to personal preference. When I follow someone, I want something from them, and if I don’t get it, or if I get a bunch of stuff I don’t want, I stop following. For me that’s pretty much defined as over-doing it in any particular area. Too many RT’s, cryptic tweets, link tweets, promo tweets, and I get tired of your crap. Political tweets are a real turn-off, as well. I’ve followed and un- followed many people based on what they talk about. It really has shaped my opinion of them. So, not that it matters because it's my personal opinion, but here is a list of a few "celebrities" that have lived up to or surpasied my expectations and the last thing they said that I thought was funny or interesting:

@SallyHogshead - Aww, the party's over... http://twitpic.com/nvgev

@leeclowsbeard - When concepting, it's best to get as many people as possible into one room. And then go somewhere else.

@DrewfromTV - I know this is going to sound dopey, but that Oprah is really nice.

@jimgaffigan - Sweet potato fries are always presented as the healthy fry. They are the gardenburger of fries.

@stewartcink - After spending time with seventh and tenth graders all weekend, all my brain can think is "Moving my hips like yeah." Party in the USA!

I'm not going to trash the ones I don't like or haven't liked. Because that's just not nice.
