Insights for Search, a Google Beta application, shows that two of every ten search queries in the United States relate to music. Thus, Google, the company that seems to be involved with everything, rolled out yet another application yesterday that allows users to search for music by artist, song, or album. No big deal, except now the results will include a link to one of Google's search partners, MySpace, iLike, or Lala, which in turn connects you with the music.

The cool part about the whole Google music search, codenamed "OneBox" (a partnership with music sites), is that you can type vague references to a song's lyrics in search and Google will hunt it down for you. For me, someone that gets the lyrics wrong half the time and has no clue regarding artists or titles, this is just short of A-M-A-Z-I-N-G.

Why? Okay, act like there's a song bouncing around in your melon that you just can't quite finger... but you know it goes something like, "too shy to shy, hush up, all you are." It's killing you because you don't quite remember everything about the tune, yet it still lingers. And no, it's not Duran Duran, because I checked that already.

Enter the lyrics into the Google search bar, and in .33 seconds, you'll have an answer.

And, you'll find out that it was performed by that long-forgotten-never-heard-from-again-super-group, Kajagoogoo, which I would have never guessed in a million years. By the way, this is the most excited that I've ever been over internet search. Again, simply amazing.

So, now when I'm in m car with my out-of-date audio system that doesn't tell me the artist, song, or station, all I need to do is grab a piece of trash from the passenger floorboard and write the lyrics on it. Then, when at home, I can punch it into the almighty Google, and voilà, the answer to my musical question.

If that's not enough to sate your musical taste buds, Google's also partnered with Pandora, imeem, and Rhapsody to enable users to discover music that they might like based on their search terms. So, as with the Kajagoogoo example, you'll be thrilled to know that I also enjoy the superfluous melodies of Duran Duran, Men Without Hats, and Simple Minds. According to Google's Blog:

This feature doesn't just make search better. It also helps people discover new sources of licensed music online while helping artists to discover new generations of fans and reconnect with longtime listeners.
