|Chrome Extension Filters Out Trump
By: Jessica Cherok
If you’re tired of hearing from Donald Trump on social media, Google Chrome has the extension for you. The filter, Trump Filter, does exactly as its name implies — it erases Donald Trump from the Internet. At least, the Internet non-Trump fans see.
The extension is incredibly popular, boasting a 5-star rating in Google Chrome’s Web Store. There are criticisms, of course; the majority of which include the extension’s “literally all and everything” related to the person and the word. So while you may be able to “adjust filter settings on the fly,” it may not be as nuanced as Chrome wants you to believe.
Still, considering we’re still a long (long, long) way off from the presidential elections, having the ability to filter out political rhetoric — entirely or by specific candidate — sounds pretty sweet. A recent Star Wars: The Force Awakens filter helped a lot of people avoid unwanted spoilers. Why not let a political filter help you avoid unwanted pontificating?
The extension is in response to Trump’s pledge to shut off the Internet for certain users (a vague and probably inflammatory reference to so-called terrorists). In other words, you should probably take this extension about as seriously as you’re taking Trump’s presidential bid.
