Uber & Messenger Team Up

Coordinating with your friends can be harder than trying to herd a bunch of cats, so any little help you can get is welcome. Enter Facebook and Uber to help make your social life just a little bit easier.

Facebook's Messenger now has Uber inside the app. You can either "request ride" by selecting an address posted within the thread or by finding the transportation option in the app's menu. Other friends who book their ride from the thread will show up in your notifications.

So, now you can talk to who you want to hang out with, where you want to hang, and make sure everyone is coordinated to get there, all within the same place. Take that, cat herd!

According to Messenger's VP of Messaging, David Marcus, "We’ve truly woven the experience inside of conversations, and the thread paradigm persists, and that’s a really important part of how we’re thinking about things over here. We want to make sure whatever we build on Messenger or enable third parties to build, it’s always in the context of a conversation or a thread."

As part of promoting the new feature, you can get a discount for a free Uber ride when you request it within Messenger. The free ride isn't limited to new Uber riders, but available to all Messenger users requesting an Uber, new or existing.
