Launch X is Launching Lady Entrepreneurs

In a world where companies are being formed every day, you’d think there would be an outstanding amount of women who own brands that are on their way to success. Unfortunately, in the startup world, men are dominating. They’re creating brands such as Braintree, Uber, and Groupon and becoming global competitors because they’re getting the funding to take their companies to the next level.

A young lady by the name of Anna Kahn is working to change the fact that only 2.7% of tech companies that raised money in 2015 were women-owned. Her V.C. firm Launch X is working to launch the next wave of Lady CEOs.

Yes, we all know that gender diversity has been an issue in some industries for some time. In tech, there is a huge gap. Some people could say this was because of “gender dominance,” a term I just coined. (You gotta love marketing — you can just make up cool words. Now, back to the story.) “Gender dominance” — that male-managed tech firms seem to have a knack for building mega brands.

The stats would tell a different story. Venture capitalists invested $48.3B in 4,356 deals in 2014, an increase of 61% in dollars invested over 2013. The number of women launching businesses has increased by 68% between 1997–2014. This is twice the growth rate of businesses owned by men. Staggering! Amazing!

This goes to show the importance of strategically aligned organizations whose missions are to address the issues facing an industry. Launch X is one of those organizations. Launch X teaches ladies how to raise capital for their businesses. Each week, as a part of Launch X, they attend workshops led by some of the best founders and venture capitalists in the world. These workshops cover everything, from Understanding Different Types of Capital, Approaches & Tactics on How to Fundraise and Negotiating a Term Sheet to Getting the Most Out of Your Investors.

Sounds like plan to me. One day soon, Launch X will be launching lady CEOs in a market near you. Long live the new brands!
