Normally, when thinking of traditional Mexican food, the novice would consider tacos, burritos, and enchiladas — the foods most Americans eat on the regular — yet there are Mexican dishes that will make your mouth scream with pleasure. El Pollo Loco is a franchise in the Southwest that is driving taste buds crazy with a specialty chicken menu.

Launched in 1980 in Los Angeles, California’s El Pollo Loco made a name for itself selling its signature chicken. They marinate fresh, whole chickens in a special recipe of herbs, spices, fruit juices, and garlic, then fire-grill them into a golden-brown taste bud capturer. This chicken is the staple of their menu and the driver of their business.

El Pollo Loco takes pride in making fresh food every day; as they prepare their pollo, they are also making homemade guacamole. Customers can choose anything from family meals with awesome sides like black beans and macaroni and cheese to healthy choices with their “Under 500” menu options (meals under 500 calories). These range from avocado salads to wheat burritos, all laced with the wonderful taste of El Pollo’s great chicken.

In just 35 years, El Pollo Loco has become a brand that has a faithful following with over 416 Stores, 60% of which are owned by franchisees. The company just went public in 2014 and is working on expansion plans that’ll soon have an El Pollo Loco menu posted on your fridge.
