Male Tinder Users Tricked

A Tinder prank tricked men into flirting with other men, and according to experts has brought security lapses to light.

A Tinder developer is accused of creating fake dating profiles for women, which tricked men using the app into flirting with them. The developer created a program that would match up men interested in the same dating profile, then allow them to flirt with one another.

As if online dating needed to be any shadier, right?

The developer said he only created the profiles to prove how easily it could be done and to expose the security issue. In an interview with the Verge, he said, “I am surprised that a company that is dealing with such sensitive interactions, which are billed as being truly private, has not seen this loophole in its own penetration testing."

He also warned that users were wrong to “trust by default” and that companies needed to be more stringent in protecting their users. Still, many people are angry at the developer’s tactics for showing the flaw.

In 2013, Tinder faced criticism for allowing users to be found within 100 ft. The company fixed that security issue and said it works hard to protect the safety of all its users. No comment has been made yet about the new security flaw.
