The world can be an ugly place, and poverty is the ugliest face I’ve ever seen, especially in underdeveloped nations. Daily, we see women and children suffer sickness, disease, and even death due to the cruel face of poverty.

However, there are brands that become angels for people in areas of the world where poverty lives to destroy lives. Same Sky is a brand that’s giving wings to women through self-empowerment and entrepreneurship so they can soar beyond the reach of poverty.

Same Sky is a global brand. As they say, “We give women a hand up and not a handout.” Founded after Rwanda was torn apart by a brutal genocide in 1994, Same Sky’s mission became helping the women and children who were ruined by the aftermath of this tragedy. One million people were killed in 100 days. That’s a death-dealing blow to the economy and an even bigger blow to the many fatherless families that remained afterwards.

Same Sky became a beacon of hope for these women and their children. They helped provide them with an education and employment by teaching them to use their crafts and trades to make money for their families. These women create beautiful jewelry that is sold via their website.  Same Sky Artisans earn 15 to 20 times the average wage in sub-Saharan Africa, and 100% of net proceeds are reinvested to train and employ more artisans in need.

The idea was regal, but what I love more about the brand is that the name of the company was created because they wanted to help women who lived under the Same Sky. Now, that’s a brand worth spending your money with.
