Google to Relaunch Glass

Apparently, Google Glass is coming back. Google stopped the sale of the glasses in January of this year.

Google moved the Glass division out of their headquarters and into its own office. It’s believed that the Glass team will be redesigning the eyewear, and will rerelease them once it’s completely finished.

All of the Google Glass models sold to date were beta versions of the product.

The new attempt at Glass will be overseen by Tony Fadell, who previously oversaw Apple’s iPod launch. Fadell is also the creator of Nest, which was bought by Google in 2014.

For this development attempt, Google will design Glass entirely before any product debut. Releasing the beta version of Google Glass placed significant strain on its developers, rumored to have led to in-fighting and other tensions. In this round, Google and Fadell hope to avoid the previous pitfalls.

This development of Google Glass will also be entirely from scratch. It may set the timeline to a multi-year one, but Google is apparently attempting to ensure the next launch of Glass goes significantly smoother than the first launch.

Whether or not Google is able to clean up the “Glasshole” image remains to be seen.
