Holiday Shopping Via Social Media

The Christmas decorations are hitting the malls and retail outlets. Soon nowhere will be safe, even social media. We are now entering the season of social media shopping.

This year we have a seen an increase of purchasing within social media sites. Twitter has partnered with several brands to offer an in-feed buy button. Facebook is expected to do the same as the holiday shopping season approaches.

Now, when you like or follow a retailer on Facebook and Twitter, you’ll be able to do more than just like or favorite. You’ll be able to buy. Simply click the "buy" button and enter your credit card information, then sit back and wait for your package to arrive.

But not everyone is excited at the instant gratification. Some warn that the social feeds will become clogged with ads, many of which are actually irrelevant. The worry is that there will be more emphasis on selling to marketers, and less on providing quality content within the feeds. Having a feed full of ads would likely turn off more users than it would entice into purchasing.

Still, in-feed buying is on its way, and its success will be proven or disproved this holiday season.
